The Hotel Diego de Almagro is located on Avenida O'Higgins, from where urban Copiapó can easily be explored on foot. Just a five-minute walk away is the Plaza de Armas Arturo Prat, considered among one of the most beautiful squares in all of Chile because of its old and huge pepper trees together with marble statues. Facing directly onto the plaza is the Copiapó Cathedral, a lovely wooden neoclassical church building that has been declared a national monument.
For a world-class cultural experience, take about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel to the Museo Mineralógico (Mineralogical Museum). Copiapó is the mining capital and hence this museum has one of the most complete collections of minerals and meteorites in South America. Fascinating! It provides context for the entire region. Also within walking distance is Alameda Manuel Antonio Matta, a historic tree-lined promenade with monuments to heroes of Atacama. Perfect for an evening stroll.
The area is packed with banks, pharmacies, and department stores in terms of amenities. There are a few restaurants just nearby offering different kinds of food- fast foods and "picadas" local.' Mall Plaza Copiapó is quite far though about 20-25 minutes' walk or short drive by taxi but the immediate downtown satisfies most daily needs allowing you to leave your car in the hotel garage and walk to dinner.
